Alford Town Council consists of 12 councillors - all independents - who meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm. The council chamber is on the first floor of the Corn Exchange in the Market Place, which is owned by East Lindsey District Council.
The Town Clerk, Mrs Jennie Cooper, has an office next to the council chamber and can be contacted on 01507 463590 on any weekday morning 9.30 - 12 noon.
THE ROLE OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
The Town Council is the "local" face of local government - the grass roots if you wish. Its role is varied and extensive. Our Town Councillors are there to act on behalf of all residents of the town.
Town Councillors must abide by the National Code of Conduct adopted by this Town Council in April 2002, and the amended version adopted in 2007.
Alford Town Council has responsibilities for:
The Cemetery and the Burial Records.
Public Conveniences.
Litter Bins.
Street furniture.
Markets
War Memorial.
Planning Consultee.
In addition:· Town Council (and in particular Town Clerk) provides a stepping stone to District and County Councils and gives advice on who does what and how to access people.
· Town Council is consulted on Policing Policy, Schools Policy and Planning Policy for the town.
· Town Council acts on local matters involving highways, community transport schemes, parking and crime prevention, liaising with the various authorities.
. Town Council produces the new Alford Directory of businesses and organisations in the town, as well as organises events to promote the town and its businesses.  The Promote Alford Day has taken place over the past three years to promote the businesses and organisations in the town, and the Town Council has undertaken advertising and promotion in countywide magazines.  In addition, the Council entered the town in the “Village of the Year” competition and now represents the whole of Lincolnshire in the national finals, due to be judged in April 2008.  
· Town Council & CCTV partnership provide and support the CCTV system in the town.
· The Town Council supports and gives donations to local bodies including school swimming activities and the Sports Hall.
